Matt Measor

Senior Risk & Control Manager (Borrowing Product & Credit Operations), Monzo

Your Story:

Matt joined the finance industry to help disrupt the culture of larger UK banks, and moved into the fintech world inspired by Monzo’s mission. Matt loves to build a risk & control culture that empowers shipping customer-centric products with velocity. It’s Matt’s mission to break down the perception that Risk & Control is an inhibitor - we’re the enablers!

Most recently, this included leading the ICA Compliance Award-winning risk and control agenda during the launch of Monzo Flex.

Over the last seven years, Matt has also accumulated first and second line risk management experience across operational, financial crime, conduct and credit risks using a solid data-driven and detail-orientated approach. Matt is an influential figurehead sought out by senior leaders across Monzo to use their powerful stakeholder management skills and industry knowledge to solve technical, human, organisational and strategic problems.

Passionate about equity and inclusion, Matt led the South UK region of Barclays’ LGBTQ+ network, Spectrum, and hosted a series of fundraising events, raising over £2500 for trans inclusion charities. Matt was recognised for two consecutive years as a Rising Star finalist for Barclays’ Diversity Business Awards in 2018 and 2019.

Your Impact:

Matt (he/him) is the global co-lead for Monzo’s LGBTQ+@ Employee Resource Group, responsible for creating, setting and executing the group’s first strategic mission and plan, acting as a primary partner to the Diversity & Inclusion team and Executive Sponsors.
Over the last four years, Matt led Monzo’s Pride celebrations for c.500 LGBTQ+ colleagues, coordinating over 15 panels and initiatives to support the community.

Matt is particularly proud of helping shape Monzo’s work with charities that help the community, who have received over £21,500 of donations from custom merchandise, and in-app donations from Monzo customers over the last 2 years. This important work extends financial inclusion to homeless LGBTQ+ youth, whilst also helping educate our colleagues on how to create inclusive products from ideation.
Outside of Monzo, Matt also serves as a founding member of the Wave network, a community for over 600 junior-grade LGBTQ+ professionals to come together and share stories about their experiences. Matt is involved in a mentoring pilot with PushFar for over 200 members of the community which connects established companies with the disruptors across industries to raise awareness and challenge existing ways of working, so that inclusion and equity become the norm at work.

Your Advice:

Create products from scratch and focus on target markets that span sexual orientation, gender identity or expression by default.
Demand disruption rather than allyship; there is power in showing what you can achieve and deliver. Use your voice and privilege to advocate for all of our community, and bring others with you on the journey - we all win or none of us do.
