Matt Measor
Senior Risk & Control Lead, Monzo Bank
Tell us your story:
"Matt joined the finance industry to help disrupt the culture of larger UK banks, and moved into the fintech world inspired by Monzo’s mission. Matt loves to build and scale a risk & control culture that empowers shipping customer-centric products with velocity. It’s Matt’s mission to break down the perception that Risk & Control is an inhibitor - we’re the enablers!
This included leading the ICA Compliance Award-winning risk and control agenda during the launch of Monzo Flex, and a series of game-changing homeownership products.
Over the last eight years, Matt has also accumulated first and second line risk management experience across operational, financial crime, conduct and credit risks using a solid data-driven and detail-orientated approach. Matt is an influential figurehead sought out by senior leaders across Monzo to use their powerful stakeholder management skills and industry knowledge to solve technical, human, organisational and strategic problems.
Passionate about equity and inclusion, Matt led the South UK region of Barclays’ LGBTQ+ network. Matt was recognised for two consecutive years as a Rising Star finalist for Barclays’ Diversity Business Awards in 2018 and 2019."
Impact:
"Recent achievements:
- Established and led the first LGBTQ+ network council who shared personal experiences to 3,500 employees.
- Secured Monzo’s first nomination for an external diversity network award.
- Coordinated Monzo’s Pride celebrations for around 600 LGBTQ+ colleagues.
- Hosted and facilitated over 20 initiatives, including a partnership with Monzo’s health insurer to educate allies on supporting those with gender dysphoria.
- Organised regional marches and stalls at Pride Cymru, UK Black Pride, and Pride in London, with over 100 attendees.
- Curated “Unfiltered” podcasts, breaking down barriers on LGBTQ+ culture and progression.
Also, Matt’s charity partnerships with Stonewall Housing, Not a Phase and TransActual recently raised over £30,500 for trans youth and homeless LGBTQ+ individuals. Monzo customers can donate directly to LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall Housing in Monzo’s app.
Committed to equity, Matt has garnered global recognition for leading various employee community groups from publications such as Attitude Magazine’s 101 Power List.
Matt developed an LGBTQ+ mentoring pilot with PushFar for over 200 members of the LGBTQ+ community, linking established companies with industry disruptors to raise awareness and challenge conventional practices, striving to make inclusion and equity the norm at work.
Matt’s unapologetic leadership has inspired future MBA students, having spoken at Imperial Business School on the importance of unapologetic queerness.
He also advises other banking and fintech players on the significance of trans-inclusive banking to create inclusive products by design."
Advice:
"Demand disruption rather than allyship; there is power in showing what you can achieve and deliver. Use your voice and privilege to advocate for all of our community, and bring others with you on the journey - we all win or none of us do."
