Lucas Germanos

Vice President, Zopa Bank
Story:

I lead external affairs for Zopa, the digital bank and tech unicorn founded in 2020 with a mission to build Britain’s best bank.

I have 20 years of on-the-record media experience as a former journalist, political aide, and Associate Director at Milltown Partners, where I advised some of Silicon Valley's most iconic technology firms.

Experience includes working for Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Dropbox, and the Obama-Biden presidential campaign in Washington DC and Virginia.

I was born in France, raised in Greece, and lived in 7 capitals in the world.

Impact:
Financial services products are used by people from all walks of life. At Zopa we think it is important to reflect this diversity in our culture and in our services, and to build simple and fair products that meet the needs of all our customers.
This is why we promote diversity at all levels across our organisation.
We have built a multi-year partnership with Code First Girls to offer female and non-binary people degrees in data, software and product management. This has already led to many job offers directly with Zopa.
We also work with Bright Network, supporting representation from ethnic minorities and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
We remove gender bias by decoding our job ads, by delivering training for managers, and by ensuring gender diverse candidate-lists and interview panels with a 50:50 hiring pipeline.
As a result, today, just under 50% of Zopa managers are women, our employees hail from 46 countries around the world, and 94% recommend us as a great place to work.
Advice:
Choose to work for companies that champion your values and help bring your best self to work!
