Gemma Dunn
Director, Missive
Your Story:
I am Director of Growth at comms consultancy Missive. I specialise in fintech and help brands – from scaleups in the fintech space to large corporates and global fintech investors – increase their market share through award-winning comms programmes. I chair Missive’s ESG committee and am a DE&I champion, and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. I am on the Board of Money Advice Plus, a national charity supporting people in debt and suffering from economic abuse.
Your Impact:
I advise clients across the fintech space (including PayU, Santander Digital, PagoNxt, Cashflows, mangopay, Nuapay and Divido) on how to effectively communicate diversity and inclusion initiatives, and where to stand down on communicating, and focus instead on getting their house in order, because DE&I efforts have not properly been embedded within an organisation. This includes initiatives targeted at LGBTQIA+ inclusion.
As a lesbian mum who works full time, I bring personal experience to the table, as well as advocating for people with other protected characteristics.
As a trustee of Money Advice Plus, a national charity supporting people in debt and suffering from economic abuse, I look at how fintech has great potential to help those who are disadvantaged in society but, if not designed with inclusion in mind, it has the power to leave certain groups behind. I am proud to share these insights from my charity work with my corporate clients, and help give them new perspectives and avenues for inclusivity with product development and comms.
Your Advice:
Fintech was hailed as the great democratiser for financial services, designed to include more members of society. Therefore, there should be great alignment between the LGBTQIA+ community and the fintech industry as they both advocate for more inclusion and a better world. Be a part of that advocacy and change - you won't regret it!
