Daniella Camilleri

Head of Product Marketing, iwocaPay

Tell us your story:

I started off working in Fashion and Beauty before kicking off my career in Fintech by joining the founding team at savings app Plum. Role wise I started off managing social / community - while I loved being witty in the comments section - I quickly moved onto product marketing.

I then built up freelance product marketing consultancy and was a techstars mentor so I could travel the world, buy my own flat and have irritating backgrounds in my calls every month.

After a few years I decided you can't be a digital nomad when you have greys coming in and went back in-house with iwocaPay to be their Head of Product Marketing.

Impact:

I think one of the most important things you can do to create an inclusive environment in a workplace is not doing a rainbow themed bake sale. It's having open conversations on tricky topics when they come up rather than shutting it down or erasing it. It's calling things out when you see them and not being afraid to put yourself in the middle of an uncomfortable conversation to try and move the dialogue forward in a way that aims to educate rather than barrate. It's owning who you are in the community and not diluting it.

The way I see it is people either want to do something, or they want to be something. I want to do something, and the opportunities to do this are almost endless. It might not be flash, but that's the thing I'm most proud. It's those times when I've had thanks from someone who felt they couldn't say something, or thanks from someone who's perspective has shifted, that I feel I've made a real difference. Our voice is in the room, let's make sure we use it.

Advice:

Diversity of thought makes businesses more successful - don't fit yourself into a mould, show how you break it.
