Chief Operating Officer, WealthKernel

Your Story:

"I've worked in the financial sector since 2006, initially taking on the role of an administrative assistant at Barclays. I eventually ended up heading the central investing proposition. This journey led me to WealthKernel, where I took the role of Director of Operations and, subsequently, the position of Chief Operating Officer within a span of two years.

The highlight of my career was the opportunity to join WealthKernel and build a company from the ground up, using the power of technology to disrupt a space that has been relatively exclusive for too long.

Throughout my career, promoting diversity has been a consistent focus. I've led diversity committees across the companies I've been a part of, and I'm dedicated to cultivating inclusive work environments."

Your Impact:

I'm bisexual and non-binary and totally open about it. Being vocal about my identity is important as I'm in a senior leadership role within my company and responsible for shaping our whole culture. I think it's crucial to be visible in this position so the folks who come in at junior roles can see that being themselves is more than okay – it's celebrated.

It's not just within the company walls. Even when interacting with clients, I make sure to be true to myself. It's all about breaking down those old stereotypes about the financial services sector from years back.

I've also been a part of different podcasts that have given me a platform to not only share my story but also champion Fintechs and the LGBTQ+ community. With each podcast, I'm hoping to add a little more understanding and positivity to both worlds.

Your Advice:

It's a bit tough to digest, but looking back at the start of my career, being my true self as a bisexual and non-binary individual was, and still is quite the uphill battle. But that's the key - we should never give in and compromise on who we really are, even if the world around us pushes us to conform. We've got to be open and honest about who we are and remember that when we come together, our strength grows, and so does our freedom.

It's amazing how far businesses have come regarding change, and they're still on that journey. This goes to show that they've got the power to make a real difference. We're not in this alone – the support we give each other can make all the difference. So, even though the road might have been rocky, it's paved with the power to shape a more accepting and authentic future.
